Google Chrome, FTW, or FTL?
It’s shiny. And pretty. And that blue bar at the top? Well, it’s just annoying.
I downloaded Chrome just a few minutes ago in hopes that it could be epic. I’ll tell you now I’m typing this in Chrome. I’ll even take a screenshot:
Difficulty: I had to go to Firefox to upload that image to Flickr. Chrome fails at Flickr.
Let’s next go to a site all Java enabled. Fail. Flash? Works. Silverlight? Just kidding.
While Chrome seems to be really nice, and fast, I think I’m waiting on a stable release. Even as I’m typing this, I see things like ghost letters where I’ve gone back and deleted words/letters. Fail. Built in spell-checker is taking a good page from FF.
Most interestingly to me, as I get ready to close Chrome: Incognito mode. What is it? It doesn’t track the addresses you surf to and keeps no cookies. It does keep your downloads and bookmarks. Why did Google add this to Chrome? Quote-
Going incognito doesn’t affect the behavior of other people, servers, or software. Be wary of:
Websites that collect or share information about you
Internet service providers or employers that track the pages you visit
Malicious software that tracks your keystrokes in exchange for free smileys
Surveillance by secret agents
People standing behind you
Translation: Kids can surf pr0ns with a much easier possibility of their parents not finding out, and husbands can drool over photos of tool benches and the powertools to go with them without their wives finding that $1200 Home Depot e-receipt I left in the history. Er… never mind. Regardless, on a scale of 1-5, Chrome gets a solid 2.5 with room to grow.
